PS5 can play games at 120 FPS – here’s the way to play your games at the highest frame rate possible.
If you are lucky enough to buy a PlayStation 5, you will undoubtedly want to take advantage of its strongest features. Probably the most notable of these features are the frames per second.
Most if not all PS5 games, at least 60 frames per second (FPS). If you have the right setup, you can play lots of games at 120 FPS and 4K UHD resolution – it’s almost the ultimate gaming experience.
Here’s how to make sure you’re getting the best possible FPS and game quality on your PS5.
How to get 120 FPS in PS5 games?
Your PS5 should automatically run at the best frame rate and resolution your TV or monitor can provide. But if something is misconfigured, you can set your PS5 to run at its highest quality level.
It is important to remember that your TV or monitor must support 120 Hz output to achieve 120 frames per second. This information will be listed when purchasing the TV, or if you already have a TV, you can find it in the manual.
Most new TVs support 4K, but reaching 120 Hz can be difficult. Some televisions can support both, but not at the same time – you have to turn off 4K to reach 120 Hz. For the best experience, look for a TV that works natively in 4K and 120 Hz.
Additionally, you must use a high quality HDMI 2.1 cable for full 120 FPS performance. The HDMI cable that came with your PS5 fits the bill, but older cables may not.
Setting your PS5 to run at its highest frame rate
Again, your PS5 should automatically run at the highest settings your equipment can run. However, in some cases, your console may prioritize running at a higher resolution over higher frame rates.
Fortunately, you can manually set your PS5 to run at the highest frame rate possible, even if that means you’ll have a lower resolution.
1. On the PS5’s Control Panel, select “Settings” in the upper right corner of the screen (the icon is in gear shape).
2. Select “Saved Data and Game / Application Settings”.
3. Select “Game Presets” on the left side of the screen.
4. Select “Performance Mode or Resolution Mode” and select “Performance Mode” from the drop-down menu.
Note that even if your PS5 is set to 120 FPS, not all games will support this frame rate. Some games may have their own display settings with the 120 FPS option you can enable.
