iOS 15: Release date, new features and everything Apple told us at WWDC


We finally got a glimpse of iOS 15 at Apple’s WWDC conference last week. Here’s what you can expect from Apple’s latest iPhone operating system.

It’s official: iOS 15 is on the way. Last week, at the company’s virtual Worldwide Developers Conference AppleThis is our first look at ‘s next major OS update. While iOS 14.5 recently saw many new features coming in April with the ability to unlock your iPhone with Face ID while wearing a mask, stop apps from tracking you for advertising purposes, and choose from four Siri voices, iOS 15 will add much more to that.

New iOS 15 features include spatial audio and FaceTime Android and Windows support, easier sharing in iMessage, and better directions in Maps. Read on for everything we’ve learned so far about iOS 15, when it’s released, how to download it, and some new features.

iOS 15 release date: Fall 2021

Apple announced iOS 15 at its annual Worldwide Developers Conference, which is typically held on Monday. This year, WWDC 2021 was completely virtual, as last year, and took place from June 7-11. The new operating system is now available for developers to test. It will be available as a public beta download in July.

Apple CEO Tim Cook said that the final version of iOS 15 will be released in the fall. This is likely to happen in September with the launch of the iPhone 13.

iOS 15 new features

Here are a few of the key new features coming to iOS 15, introduced at WWDC 2021. (And here’s an overview of all the new features in iOS 15.)

FaceTime upgrades: Spatial audio, Android and Windows support

FaceTime will offer spatial audio to make it sound like people’s voices are coming from their position on the screen, making your video chats feel more natural and realistic. FaceTime will also begin to look more like Zoom, allowing you to see all attendees in a grid view, schedule calls, and share search links, accessible via browser on Google Android and Microsoft Windows devices.

iMessage sharing features

iOS 15, photos, news Adds some new iMessage sharing features for articles and playlists. When a friend sends you multiple photos via iMessage, they appear in a dynamic collage creation in your photo app that lets you swipe or tap to view the entire group. If you want to access the same photos later, you’ll find them stored in a new Shared With You folder and mixed with your own featured photos and memories. Also, News and shared via iMessage in the new Shared With You tabs in your Apple Music apps news You’ll also find articles and playlists.

Apple Maps will feature 3D street data and AR walking directions

Apple Maps will get an upgrade with more elevation data, road colors and directions, rich labels, 3D landmarks, and an improved night mode. In terms of public transport, you can pin nearby public transport stops and station information to your iPhone and Apple Watch, and receive automatic updates and notifications as you drive and approach the stop. A new augmented reality feature allows you to scan nearby buildings in the area with your iPhone’s camera to pinpoint their precise location while traveling on foot, also for more accurate walking directions presented in augmented reality.

How can you download iOS 15?

If you’re part of Apple’s developer program, you can now download the iOS 15 developer beta to test your apps. The OS will be available to download in public beta in July, so you can download it then if you want, but be warned: Betas are often problematic and we don’t recommend downloading them to your primary device. But if you want, here’s how to download the iOS 15 and iPadOS 15 betas.

When iOS 15 becomes generally available in the fall (possibly in September), Apple will likely send you a notification that you can update. or you can also do it manually by going to Settings app > General > Software Update.
