Is Human-Robot Marriage Possible?

Digisexuality, defined as “the tendency to be attracted to robots”, draws attention as a trend spreading all over the world.

Digisexuality, which is defined as “the tendency to be attracted to robots”, draws attention as a trend spreading all over the world. Pointing out that the most dangerous aspect of the job is that such trends are especially attractive to young people who have problems in relationships and are lonely, and that they attract more and more supporters, experts said that this new trend threatens the concept of family, and that government institutions and NGOs work together to support and support the family. emphasizes the need to develop protective policies.

Üsküdar University Head of Sociology Department Prof. Dr. Ebulfez Süleymanlı, in the near future, family and marriage made statements about the new trend, digitality, which could pose a serious threat to the organization.

The concept of family is changing

prof. Dr. Ebulfez Süleymanlı emphasized that the position of the family is changing rapidly in today’s world and emphasized that roles, functions and structural factors are being reconstructed. prof. Dr. Ebulfez Süleymanlı said, “The family institution, which has serious problems with balance and stability in this process of change, causes some of the marriages to end in divorce or to change the perception of marriage in the society. The concept of “solo life” is among the issues that threaten the family and especially the institution of marriage. There are issues such as the increasing preference of single lives defined to family life or the proliferation of single-parent families.

Defining digisexuality as “people’s sexual and communicative desire for robots rather than their own kind, they prefer to associate with them”, Prof. Dr. Ebulfez Süleymanlı stated that the expressions “digisexual” or “robosexual” are used in the literature for such people.

The cover of Love and Sex with Robots.

Prof. Dr. Ebulfez Süleymanlı, English artificial intelligence expert David Levy, in his book “Love and Sex with Robots” published in 2007, said that he predicted that the first marriage with robots would be possible in 2050.

There are those who fall in love with robots and those who get married.

Stating that examples of David Levy’s prediction are being seen in some countries today, Prof. Dr. Ebulfez Süleymanlı gave the following examples: “In 2016, a French woman named Lilly stated that she fell in love with her robot named InMoovator, which was produced by a 3D printer, and wanted to marry him.

A year later, a Chinese artificial intelligence expert named Jiajia Zheng organized a religious marriage ceremony with the robot he made and invited his family and friends to this ceremony. According to the statements made, the young man took such an action because he had given up hope that he would find a suitable woman for him and he was fed up with the pressures of his family.

Akihiko Kondo, who worked as a school administrator in Tokyo, the capital of Japan, in 2018, married a 16-year-old singer, hologram Hatsune Miku, even by buying a ring from a jeweler and creating a marriage certificate, is one of the similar examples that aroused indignation all over the world. As can be seen from the examples, this type of union is seen or presented as an alternative option for people who are increasingly lonely and have difficulty in establishing relationships, especially all over the world, under the name of “digisexual revolution”.

Expressing that the preference of a woman or a man to a robot rather than a human for sexual intercourse and emotional satisfaction requires redefining many concepts, Prof. Dr. Ebulfez Süleymanlı emphasized that family comes first among these concepts.

Noting that this situation may cause significant problems in the future, Prof. Dr. Ebulfez Süleymanlı continued his words as follows:

“Is it possible to marry a human with a robot? How should their desire to adopt with this marriage be met? Or will robot children be manufactured? On the other hand, can it be thought that the parent who is a robot can meet the emotional needs of the child? Perhaps most importantly, a mother or father who does not prefer a relationship with a human. How will our identity change in this process, what will be the norms of the new morality and morality? Can we talk about a new corporeality built on the objectification of the human body, ignoring the integrity of the human soul, body and emotions? “

Stating that legal, religious and philosophical inquiries regarding this situation, which poses a great danger to the future of humanity in general in demographic, ethical and many other aspects, have begun today, Prof. Dr. Ebulfez Süleymanlı underlined that most of the discussions focus on the points that robots will lack.

Explaining how arrogant and rightful people approach even this situation, Prof. Dr. Süleymanlı continued: “Until now, in the minds of users, they use or abuse their robot partners and robots will always be in a secondary position. However, as we know from history, those who are abused may become abusers after a while. We can observe that computers and smartphones have become a device that we can never give up in our lives today. As a matter of fact, today, the feeling of being away from such smart devices creates a psychological discomfort in which fear of communication disconnection can become a problem. “There will be many people among us who will soon become mentally dependent on robots. It should not be forgotten that in this age when humans are trying to be compared to robots, robots are also trying to attribute human characteristics.

Stating that the most dangerous aspect of the job is that such tendencies are especially attractive to young people who have problems in relationships and are lonely, Prof. Dr. Ebulfez Süleymanlı made the following recommendations:

“Companies that produce such robots are also expanding their area of attraction by designing new products focused on artificial intelligence. In order to prevent such tendencies that threaten the institution of family and marriage and even the future of humanity in many ways, sociologists, state institutions and NGOs cooperate. The development of supportive and protective policies is extremely important for the future of humanity.
